ABI/CAB Code
Italian banks are identified by a 5-digit ABI (Associazione Bancaria Italiana) code for the institution and a 5-digit CAB (Codice di Avviamento Bancario) code for the branch. Both are embedded within the Italian IBAN and used by the SEPA payment system.

How ABI/CAB works
The ABI code identifies the bank and the CAB code identifies the specific branch. Together with the account number and a control character (CIN), they form the Italian BBAN, which is embedded in the IBAN.
Where to find yours
On your bank statement, in your online banking portal, or embedded in your IBAN (digits 6–10 for ABI, 11–15 for CAB).

Good to know
Italian IBANs are 27 characters: IT + 2 check digits + CIN + ABI + CAB + 12-digit account number.
SEPA transfers only require IBAN — you rarely need ABI/CAB separately for eurozone payments.
Fineco Bank and other online banks use a single CAB code for all customers.
