The CLABE (Clave Bancaria Estandarizada) is an 18-digit standardized bank account number used in Mexico for electronic transfers. Introduced in 2004, it replaced the previous system of bank-specific account numbers.

How it works

The first 3 digits identify the bank, digits 4–6 identify the city/region, digits 7–17 are the account number, and digit 18 is a check digit. CLABE is required for all SPEI (interbank electronic payment system) transfers.
