Bank Code

Bangladeshi banks are identified by a 4-digit bank code assigned by Bangladesh Bank, the central bank. These codes are used for interbank transfers via the Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network (BEFTN) and the National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB).

How BC works

The 4-digit bank code identifies the financial institution, and a separate 3-digit branch routing number identifies the branch. Together they form a 9-digit routing number used for BEFTN and RTGS transfers.

Where to find yours

In your mobile banking app, on your cheque book, or by contacting your bank. Bangladesh Bank publishes the official list of routing numbers.

Good to know

bKash is the dominant payment platform — it uses phone numbers, not bank codes, for P2P transfers.

The 9-digit routing number combines the 4-digit bank code, 2-digit district, and 3-digit branch code.

BEFTN and RTGS transfers require the full 9-digit routing number alongside the account number.
