Iceland uses a 26-character IBAN for international transfers and a domestic account format consisting of a 4-digit bank code, a 2-digit ledger code, a 6-digit account number, and a 10-digit kennitala (national ID). The Central Bank of Iceland (Seðlabanki Íslands) oversees payment infrastructure.

How IBAN works
The Icelandic IBAN starts with "IS" followed by 2 check digits and a 22-digit BBAN. Domestically, account numbers include the bank branch code (4 digits), ledger type, account number, and the account holder's kennitala. RB (Reiknistofa bankanna) operates the interbank clearing system.
