Closing Your Slash Account
Last updated March 21, 2026
Overview
If you no longer need your Slash account, you can request to close it at any time. Before your account can be closed, you'll need to ensure all balances are withdrawn, pending transactions are settled, and any outstanding obligations are resolved. This article walks you through the process of closing your Slash account and what to expect along the way.
Account closure is permanent—once your account is closed, it cannot be reopened. If you're unsure whether you want to fully close your account, consider keeping it open with a zero balance, as there are no monthly fees for maintaining an inactive Slash account.
Before You Close Your Account
Before initiating an account closure request, make sure the following conditions are met:
- Zero balances: All accounts and subaccounts must have a $0.00 balance. This includes your primary checking account, any subaccounts you've created, Global USD accounts, and crypto wallets.
- No pending transactions: All pending transfers—including ACH payments, wire transfers, card transactions, and crypto transfers—must be fully settled. Pending transactions can take several business days to clear.
- No outstanding card authorizations: Any card transactions that have been authorized but not yet settled must clear before closure. This is common with gas stations, hotels, and restaurants that place temporary holds.
- Charge card balance paid: If you have a Slash Charge Card, your full statement balance must be paid before your account can be closed.
- No active loans or credit facilities: If you have an instant deposit loan or other credit facility, this must be fully repaid.
- Cancel recurring payments: Update any recurring payments or direct deposits that use your Slash account information to avoid failed transactions after closure.
How to Request Account Closure
Slash does not currently offer self-service account closure through the dashboard. To close your account, you'll need to contact our support team.
Step 1: Review your account
Log in to your Slash dashboard and review all accounts and subaccounts to ensure balances are at zero. Check the Transactions tab for any pending items that still need to settle.
Step 2: Withdraw remaining funds
If you have a remaining balance, transfer your funds to an external bank account:
- Navigate to Move Money and select Send Money
- Choose your linked external bank account as the destination
- Enter the full remaining balance
- Select ACH or wire transfer depending on your needs and confirm the transfer
Allow 1-3 business days for ACH transfers or same-day for domestic wires.
Step 3: Cancel connected services
Before closing your account, cancel or disconnect any services tied to your Slash account:
- Cards: All virtual and physical cards will be automatically deactivated upon account closure
- API access: If you use the Slash API, any API keys will be revoked
- Connected accounts: Disconnect any linked external accounts, accounting software integrations (like QuickBooks), or payroll services
- Team members: Notify any team members who have access to the account that it will be closing
Step 4: Contact support
Once your account is ready for closure, reach out to the Slash support team by using the in-app chat (click the chat icon in your Slash dashboard) or send a request to support@slash.com from the email address associated with your account.
Include the following in your message or email request:
- Your full legal business name
- Confirmation that you've withdrawn all funds and settled all pending transactions
- The reason for closing your account (optional, but helps us improve)
Step 5: Complete verification
For security purposes, you may be asked to verify your identity before the account closure is processed. This typically involves confirming account ownership through your registered email or phone number.
What Happens After You Request Closure
- Processing time: Account closure requests typically take 3-5 business days to process after all conditions are met.
- Confirmation: You'll receive an email confirmation once your account has been officially closed.
- Records access: After closure, you will no longer have access to your Slash dashboard. We recommend downloading any transaction history, statements, or tax documents you may need before requesting closure.
- Data retention: Slash retains certain account records for regulatory and compliance purposes, as required by law. For details, refer to our Privacy Policy.
- Reopening: Closed accounts cannot be reopened. If you'd like to use Slash again in the future, you'll need to submit a new application.
Special Circumstances
Closing an account with a Charge Card
If you have a Slash Charge Card, you must pay off your entire statement balance before closure. Any pending charges must also settle and be paid. The charge card will be deactivated as part of the account closure process.
Closing an account with Global USD
Global USD accounts must have a zero balance. If you have funds in your Global USD account, wire them to an external account before requesting closure. International wire transfers may take 1-3 business days.
Closing an account with crypto balances
Withdraw any cryptocurrency to an external wallet before closing your account. Crypto transfers are typically processed within minutes but may take longer depending on network conditions.
Closing a business with multiple team members
Only the account owner or an admin with appropriate permissions can request account closure. Team members will lose access to the dashboard once the account is closed.
Account closure during pending disputes
If you have an active dispute or investigation on your account, the closure request will be placed on hold until the matter is resolved.
Downloading Your Records Before Closure
Before closing your account, download any records you may need:
- Transaction history: Go to Transactions and use the export function to download your full transaction history as a CSV file
- Monthly statements: Navigate to Documents to download PDF statements for each month
- Tax documents: Download any 1099 forms or other tax documents from the Documents section
- Receipts and attachments: Download any receipts or documents you've uploaded to transactions
Slash recommends keeping these records for at least seven years for tax and business purposes.
