How to Know if You're Eligible for Slash
Overview
Slash provides financial services to companies founded by entrepreneurs from around the world. However, due to regulatory requirements, compliance obligations, and risk management policies, we cannot support businesses operating in certain industries or in certain countries. This policy helps ensure Slash remains compliant with federal regulations including anti-money laundering (AML) laws, sanctions programs, and financial services regulations.
Understanding these restrictions before applying can save you time and help you determine if Slash is the right financial partner for your business. These prohibitions apply regardless of your company's revenue size, location, or background.
Industries We Cannot Support
Sanctioned Entities
Countries, governments, entities, and individuals subject to U.S. sanctions or included in any applicable government prohibitions. This includes entities on the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list or similar restriction lists.
Marijuana-Related Businesses
Companies deriving more than 50% of their revenue from marijuana-related activities, including manufacturers, dispensaries, and businesses engaged in medical marijuana or other "touch the plant" operations. This threshold is specifically measured by revenue percentage, not by the nature of services provided.
Anonymous Accounts
Anonymous or numbered accounts, or customers seeking to maintain accounts under obviously fictitious names. Legitimate business operations require verified identity information for all account holders.
Bearer Share Companies
Companies using bearer shares where the shares have not been recorded on a share register or are not held with a local custodian. Bearer shares create ownership anonymity that conflicts with financial transparency requirements.
Shell Banks
Shell banks, defined as banks that have no physical presence in the country where they are incorporated and licensed. Physical presence means having a location with management and records maintained at that address.
Payable Through Accounts
Services providing direct access to the account held by the client to another party (typically the customer's clients) to initiate payments. These arrangements create complex liability and compliance challenges.
Unlicensed Money Transmission
Unlicensed or unregistered money transmitter activity, including companies offering services involving money or currency exchange, money transfer, check cashing, and issuing or selling travelers checks, money orders, or stored value products. State and federal licenses are required for these activities.
Unlicensed Internet Gambling
Unlicensed, unregistered, or unlawful internet gambling companies, as well as companies whose main source (more than 50%) of revenue is derived from supporting gambling or wager activities that are unlicensed, unregistered, or would be considered unlawful under Regulation GG. The 50% threshold applies to both direct gambling operations and businesses that primarily support gambling activities.
Adult Entertainment
Adult entertainment and services businesses, including escorts and prostitution services, pornography and obscene media companies, and other sexually-related online or social media services such as sexually-related adult live chats, sexually motivated dating services, and pornographic pay-per-view services.
Fraudulent Schemes
Companies whose business model is indicative of a Ponzi scheme, pyramid selling, pump and dump schemes, or other forms of "get rich quick" business models or prohibited types of multi-level marketing operations. This includes any business structure that primarily rewards recruitment rather than product sales.
Hate and Discrimination
Individuals, groups, or companies that promote terrorism, hate, bigotry, racism, abuse, or harassment. This includes but is not limited to discrimination or violence against any group based on race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or any other immutable characteristic.
Consumer Data Sales
Companies involved in the sale of consumer data, specifically personally-identifying information on a non-anonymized basis. This restriction focuses on the commercial sale of identifiable personal data, not anonymized or aggregated data used for legitimate business analytics.
Counterfeit Goods
Companies involved in the manufacturing of counterfeit goods or goods meant to infringe on intellectual property rights. This includes trademark infringement, patent violations, and unauthorized reproductions of protected works.
Pseudo-Medical Products
Pseudo-medical treatments or medications, including businesses involved in the commercial sale of chemicals or compounds that claim medical-grade benefits. This prohibition does not include legitimate vitamins or cosmetics, unless the products offered generally require a medical prescription but are not obtained through a licensed pharmacy.
