Setting Up Your Slash Account
Last updated March 21, 2026
Overview
Welcome to Slash. Excellent decision, by the way—future you says thanks. Once your Slash account has been approved and activated, completing these setup steps will ensure you can fully utilize the platform's features.
While it isn't required, we recommend following this guide in order. Some features, especially card creation, require configuration in other menus first to get the most out of your initial setup.
What This Guide Covers:
- Funding Your Account: Learn about the different methods for adding money to your Slash account.
- Enabling Two-Factor Authentication: Add an additional security layer to protect your account with time-based authentication codes.
- Configuring Notifications: Customize which alerts you receive to stay informed about account activity.
- Inviting Team Members: Add employees, accountants, and administrators with role-based permissions appropriate to their responsibilities.
- Setting Up Card Groups: Configure aggregate spending limits across multiple cards to control budgets for specific use cases.
- Ordering Physical Cards: Corporate cards for employees that are shipped to specified addresses and require activation upon receipt
- Creating Virtual Cards: Generate instant digital cards for your employees, recurring purchases, subscriptions, and more.
Funding Your Account
Funding your account is the first step to activating your Slash cards and payment capabilities. To get started, Slash requires an initial deposit from your external bank account. You can start conservatively with just enough funds to cover initial payments and card expenses, or transfer the majority of your operating capital to use Slash as your primary financial management platform.
Every Slash user starts with a virtual business checking account for managing operational cash flow (called your cash account). Slash also supports the creation of specialized subaccounts that allow you to silo funds for specific purposes for more control over your financial organization. Additionally, you can open a high-yield treasury account to earn returns on idle funds.
By default, funds added to your account will be added to your cash account. To initiate your first top-up, navigate to 'Move Money' > 'Add funds' from the homepage of your Slash dashboard. Slash offers multiple funding methods to accommodate different transfer speeds, geographic locations, and operational needs.
Select your preferred method from the list below for step-by-step information about adding funds:
Connected Bank Account
External ACH or Wire Transfer
Real-Time Payments (FedNow)
International Wire
Cryptocurrency
For more information about adding funds to your Slash account, you can read our guide 'Adding Funds to Your Slash Account'. For more information about automatic top-ups when your account balance is running low, read our guide 'How to Configure Automatic Top-Ups on Slash'.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an additional security layer to your account by requiring a time-based code from an authenticator app in addition to your password when logging in.
Step 1: Navigate to Personal Settings
Navigate to the bottom left corner of your dashboard and click on 'Personal Settings'. Click on 'Account & Security' to access security configuration options.
Step 2: Enable Two-Factor Authentication
Click the toggle switch next to 'Two-Factor Authentication' to begin the setup process.
Step 3: Scan QR Code with Authenticator App
Use your preferred authenticator application (Authy, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, etc.) to scan the QR code displayed on screen. This links your Slash account to the authenticator app.
Step 4: Verify Setup with Authentication Code
Enter the 6-digit code currently displayed in your authenticator app to confirm the setup. Two-factor authentication is now active on your account.
Configuring Notifications
Customize which alerts and notifications you receive from Slash to stay informed about account activity without notification overload.
Step 1: Navigate to Personal Settings
Navigate to the bottom left corner of your dashboard and click on 'Personal Settings'. Click on 'Account & Security' to access security configuration options.
Step 2: Navigate to Notifications Section
Click on 'Notifications' to view all available notification options.
Step 3: Customize Notification Preferences
Toggle individual notification types on or off based on your preferences. Settings are saved automatically as you make changes.
Inviting Team Members to Slash
Slash supports multiple user roles with different permission levels, allowing you to grant appropriate access to employees, accountants, and administrators.
Step 1: Access Entity Settings
Navigate to 'Entity Settings' at the bottom left corner of your Slash dashboard.
Step 2: Initiate User Invitation
Click on 'Users' located in the top menu bar of the entity settings. At the top right, click 'Send invite'
Step 3: Enter User Information and Assign Role
Provide the invitee's name and email address, then select one of the following roles:
- Owner: Full permissions across all account features and settings.
- Admin: Full access to all user management features.
- Employee: Limited access; can view and modify resources like cards, card groups, and virtual accounts.
- Accountant: View-only access to transaction data and financial records.
The invited user will receive an email with instructions to access the Slash account with their assigned permissions.
Setting Up Card Groups
Before ordering any physical cards or setting up new virtual cards, it's best to set up your card groups first. Card groups enable you to set spending limits across multiple cards collectively rather than managing individual card limits. Groups can correspond to your company's different teams, departments, locations, or whatever you choose. Setting this up now will save you time later when setting up all your cards, but this can be completed later on, too.
Step 1: Navigate to the Cards Page and Create a New Group
Click the 'Cards' page in the side panel of your dashboard. Then click 'Add +' in the top right corner of the dashboard and select 'New Group' from the dropdown to begin creating a card group.
Step 2: Name Your Card Group
Provide a descriptive name for the card group that reflects its purpose or the cards it will contain. You'll also need to choose which virtual account the card corresponds to; this determines which cash account will be used to pay down card balances.
Step 3: Configure Group Spending Controls (Optional)
Optionally assign merchant restrictions, merchant category limitations, transaction size limits, and utilization limits that will apply to all cards within this group.
Read 'Configuring Card Limits' for an in-depth explanation about how limits govern card spending.
Step 4: Complete Group Creation
Confirm your settings to create the card group. You can now assign cards to this group to apply collective spending controls.
Ordering Physical Cards
The Slash Visa Platinum Card is available in both physical and virtual formats. While virtual cards can be issued instantly and used immediately, physical cards are ideal for in-person purchases and situations where a physical card presence is required—so they're good to have on-hand. Here's how to order new physical cards through your dashboard:
Step 1: Navigate to the Cards Page
Click 'Cards' in the side panel of your Slash dashboard to access card management and view your existing cards.
Step 2: Initiate the Order for a New Physical Card
Click 'Add +' located in the top right corner of the dashboard to begin the card creation process. Select 'Order Physical Card' from the available options.
Step 3: Configure Card Details
You'll first be prompted to enter the cardholder name that will be printed on the physical card. You can also choose whether to include your company name on the card for enhanced brand presence. Once completed, click 'Continue' to proceed to card configuration.
Configure the following settings to customize how the card appears and functions within your Slash account:
- Card Name: The internal display name used to identify this card in your Slash dashboard (only visible to you and your team, not printed on the physical card).
- Virtual Account: Select which Slash account or subaccount will be charged for transactions made with this card. This determines which funds pool the card draws from.
- Card Group (Optional): If you have card groups configured, assign this card to a specific group that corresponds to a team or department. Card group assignment automatically applies preset spending rules, merchant restrictions, and aggregate limits to this card.
- Cardholder (Optional): Specify the name of the employee who will use this card. If a cardholder is designated, this individual will receive email and SMS notifications related to card usage, including transaction alerts and spending summaries.
Step 4: Enter Shipping Information and Delivery Method
Scroll down to the shipping section and provide the complete mailing address where the physical card should be delivered. Ensure the address is accurate to avoid delivery delays or returned shipments.
To save this address for future card orders, click the 'Update my mailing address' checkbox at the bottom of the page. This stored address will auto-populate for subsequent physical card orders, streamlining the process.
Step 5: Set Card Limits (Optional)
Before proceeding to the final order review, click on the 'Limits' tab at the top of the order panel. This section allows you to establish comprehensive spending controls and usage restrictions that will govern how the card can be used. These controls help prevent unauthorized purchases, fraud, and overspending while ensuring the card is used only for approved purposes.
Read 'Configuring Card Limits' for an in-depth explanation about how limits govern card spending.
Step 6: Review and Complete the Card Order
Review all card configuration details, cardholder information, and shipping address for accuracy. Confirm the order to submit your physical card request. You can order unlimited physical cards for all your employees using this same process.
Step 7: Activate Your Card Upon Receipt
To activate your new physical card after it's been delivered, navigate to the 'Cards' page and locate the listing for the new card. After clicking on the card, you'll be prompted to enter the last 4 digits of the card number into the dashboard to activate.
Creating Virtual Cards
In addition to our physical charge cards, you can create virtual cards that can be used to process payments through your dashboard or be added to your employees' mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.).
Step 1: Navigate to the Cards Page
Click 'Cards' in the side panel of your Slash dashboard to access card management and view your existing cards.
Step 2: Initiate New Virtual Card Creation
Click 'Add +' located in the top right corner of the dashboard. Select 'New Virtual Card' from the dropdown menu.
Step 3: Configure Card Details
Configure the following settings to customize how the card(s) functions within your Slash account:
Unlike physical cards, you can create and issue multiple virtual cards at once. Enter the number of cards you'd like to create—just note that the name and settings you choose will apply to all cards at the time of creation. You can adjust individual virtual card settings manually afterward.
Step 4: Set Card Limits (Optional)
Before proceeding to the final order review, click on the 'Limits' tab at the top of the creation panel.
Step 5: Create the New Virtual Card(s)
Click 'Create Card(s)'. You should now be able to view, edit, and issue your new virtual cards from your dashboard.
