How to Keep Your Slash Account Secure
Last updated April 9, 2026
Overview
Slash provides multiple layers of security including two-factor authentication (2FA), device verification, login alerts, and the ability to freeze cards and accounts instantly. This guide covers every security feature available, how to enable them, and best practices for keeping your account safe.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
2FA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a second form of verification beyond your password when you log in, such as a biometric passkey or authenticator code. Even if someone obtains your password, they won't be able to access your account without the second factor.
How to Enable 2FA
Navigate to Settings > Security. Select Enable 2FA and follow the prompts to connect an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password). You will scan a QR code and enter a verification code to complete setup.
Once enabled, you will need to enter the code from your authenticator app whenever you log into Slash.
Device Verification
When you log in from a new device or browser, Slash may send a verification email or SMS to confirm it's actually you. This prevents unauthorized access from unrecognized devices.
If you receive a device verification request that you did not initiate, do not approve it. Change your password immediately and contact support.
Login Notifications
Optionally, Slash can notify you every time someone logs into your account, even from approved devices. Enable login notifications under Settings > Notifications > Security Alerts to stay informed about account access.
Freezing Cards and Accounts
If you suspect unauthorized activity, you can freeze your cards or your accounts:
To freeze cards: Go to the Cards page, click the card you'd like to pause, and select Pause. The card will decline all transactions until you unpause it.

Contact support for account-level freezes if you believe your account has been compromised.
Security Best Practices
- Enable 2FA from the start. 2FA is the best way to prevent unauthorized access to your Slash account.
- Use a unique, strong password. Utilize a password manager to keep track of a long, hard-to-skim password for your Slash account.
- Do not share your login credentials. If someone claims to be an employee at Slash and asks for your password, don't share it. Slash support will never ask for your password. Report the activity to us, and we'll handle it from there.
- Review your transaction history regularly for any charges you do not recognize.
- Log out on shared devices. Never stay logged into Slash on computers that others can access.
What to Do If Your Slash Account Is Compromised
- Change your password immediately from Settings > Security. Update your other passwords for web accounts and email addresses, too.
- Freeze all cards from the Cards page.
- Contact Slash support at support@slash.com or via in-app chat.
- Review recent transactions and dispute any unauthorized charges.
- Check your email account for messages about unauthorized access.
