Understanding Slash Card Statuses
Overview
Your Slash cards can have different statuses depending on whether they're ready to use, temporarily disabled, or permanently closed. Understanding these statuses helps you manage your cards effectively and troubleshoot any issues with transactions.
This article explains each possible card status, what it means for your card's functionality, and how to change your card's status when needed.
Card Statuses
Active: The card is fully functional and ready for transactions. All spending controls and limits you've configured are in effect.
Paused: The card is temporarily disabled. Transactions will be declined, but the card can be unpaused at any time without needing to request a new card. Pausing is useful when you want to temporarily restrict spending, such as when an employee is between projects or if you notice suspicious activity.
Inactive: The card has been deactivated and cannot process transactions. This can happen when an account is frozen or when the card needs to be reactivated by an administrator. Unlike paused cards, inactive cards may require additional steps to restore functionality.
Closed: The card is permanently deactivated and cannot be used again. Closed cards cannot be reopened. If you need a replacement, you'll need to request a new card.
How Card Status Affects Transactions
Only cards with an Active status can authorize transactions. If your card is Paused, Inactive, or Closed, any transaction attempt will be declined.
Step 1: Check Your Card Status
From the Slash dashboard, navigate to Cards in the sidebar. Select the card you want to review. The card's current status is displayed on the card detail page.
Step 2: Pause or Unpause a Card
To temporarily disable a card, select the card and click Pause Card. The card will immediately stop authorizing transactions. To resume card functionality, click Unpause Card on a paused card.
Step 3: Close a Card
To permanently close a card, select the card and click Close Card. You'll be asked to confirm this action. Once closed, the card cannot be reopened. You can request a replacement card if needed.
When Cards Are Automatically Paused or Closed
In certain situations, Slash may automatically change your card's status:
Account freeze: If your account is frozen for any reason, associated cards are suspended. When the account is unfrozen, cards return to a Paused status and must be manually reactivated.
Security concerns: If suspicious activity is detected on a card, it may be paused or closed as a protective measure. Contact support if you believe this happened in error.
Account closure: When a subaccount is closed, all cards linked to that subaccount are permanently closed.
Physical vs Virtual Cards
Both physical and virtual cards follow the same status system. The key difference is that if you close a physical card and need a replacement, you'll need to wait for a new card to be shipped. Virtual cards can be created instantly.
