Chase Routing Number: Complete State-by-State Guide

Find the correct JPMorgan Chase routing number for your state. Chase uses different routing numbers for ACH transfers, wire transfers, and direct deposits depending on where you opened your account.

What is the Chase routing number?

Chase does not use a single routing number for all customers. Because JPMorgan Chase grew through decades of acquisitions (absorbing Washington Mutual, Bear Stearns, Bank One, and dozens of regional banks), customers in different states were assigned routing numbers tied to the legacy institution that originally held their accounts. Today, Chase maintains unique routing numbers for nearly every state where it operates.

The routing number you need depends on where you opened your account, not where you currently live. If you opened a Chase checking account in New York and later moved to California, your routing number is still the New York number (021000021) unless you explicitly transferred your account.

If your state is not listed, or if you are unsure which routing number applies, check your checkbook, log into the Chase mobile app, or call Chase customer service at 1-800-935-9935. Chase also publishes routing numbers in the account details section of their online banking portal.

Chase wire transfer routing number

For domestic wire transfers, Chase uses a single routing number nationwide: 021000021. This is the same as the New York ACH routing number but applies to wire transfers regardless of your state. International incoming wire transfers to Chase require the SWIFT code CHASUS33.

The distinction matters. If you use your state-specific ACH routing number for a wire transfer, the transaction may be delayed or rejected. Similarly, using the wire transfer routing number for an ACH payment could cause processing issues. Always confirm the transfer type before submitting routing information.

How to find your Chase routing number

The fastest method is through the Chase mobile app: navigate to the account, tap "Show details," and the routing number appears alongside your account number. In online banking at chase.com, click the account tile, then look under account details. Your routing number is also printed on the bottom-left corner of every Chase check, before your account number.

If you no longer have checks and cannot access online banking, any Chase branch can confirm your routing number with a valid ID. Keep in mind that if you hold multiple Chase accounts opened in different states, each account may have a different routing number.

Chase routing number for direct deposit

When setting up direct deposit with your employer, use the ACH routing number for the state where you opened your Chase account. Your employer will also need your account number, which is a separate set of digits found to the right of the routing number on your checks or in your online banking details.

Chase direct deposits typically post by 7:00 AM local time on the scheduled pay date. Some employers send payroll files early, in which case Chase may make funds available up to two business days before the official pay date through their Early Direct Deposit feature.
