Chime Routing Number: Why a

Chime logoPrimary routing number031101279

Chime uses routing number 031101279 (Bancorp Bank) or 103100195 (Stride Bank) depending on when you opened your account. Chime is not a bank - it partners with two FDIC-insured banks.

Chime is not a bank - so whose routing number are you using?

Chime is one of the most popular financial apps in the United States with over 20 million account holders, but it is not a bank. Chime is a financial technology company that partners with two FDIC-insured banks - The Bancorp Bank, N.A. and Stride Bank, N.A. - to provide its deposit accounts. This means your Chime account's routing number depends on which partner bank holds your deposits, and that was determined when you signed up.

If your account is held through The Bancorp Bank, your routing number is 031101279. If your account is through Stride Bank, your routing number is 103100195. There is no way to choose between them, and Chime does not allow you to switch. This dual-bank arrangement is unusual among fintechs and occasionally causes confusion when setting up direct deposit or ACH transfers.

How to tell which routing number is yours

Open the Chime app, tap "Move Money," then tap "Direct Deposit." Your routing number and account number are displayed on that screen. You can also find it by navigating to Settings and viewing your account details. The routing number shown is the one tied to your specific partner bank - you do not need to figure out Bancorp vs. Stride on your own.

Another way to confirm: if you ordered a Chime checkbook (available for Chime Checking accounts), the routing number is printed in the standard bottom-left position on each check. The bank name printed on those checks will be either The Bancorp Bank or Stride Bank, not Chime.

Why Chime works with two partner banks

Chime originally launched in 2013 exclusively through The Bancorp Bank. As the platform grew rapidly, Chime added Stride Bank as a second partner around 2020. This is not uncommon in fintech - spreading deposits across multiple bank partners helps manage regulatory concentration limits and provides operational redundancy. If one banking partner experiences technical issues, the other's accounts remain unaffected.

The fine print on every Chime marketing page reads: "Chime is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services are provided by The Bancorp Bank, N.A. or Stride Bank, N.A., Members FDIC." This disclosure is legally required because only chartered banks can call themselves banks, and Chime does not hold a bank charter.

What the partner bank model means for your money

Your deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000 regardless of which partner bank holds your account. Chime itself is not insured - the partner bank is. For most daily transactions like direct deposit, peer-to-peer payments through the Chime app, and debit card purchases, the distinction between Bancorp and Stride is invisible. Both routing numbers work identically for ACH and wire transfers.

The Bancorp Bank routing number details

The Bancorp Bank (routing number 031101279) is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware and is one of the largest white-label banking partners in the United States. Beyond Chime, Bancorp provides the banking infrastructure for dozens of fintech apps and prepaid card programs. The 031 prefix corresponds to the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, reflecting Bancorp's Delaware charter.

Stride Bank (routing number 103100195) is based in Enid, Oklahoma. It is a much smaller community bank that expanded into fintech partnerships. The 103 prefix corresponds to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's Oklahoma City branch. Stride also partners with other fintech platforms beyond Chime.
