Healthcare customer success story
How Slash’s Tools and Teamwork Helped Codes Health Scale
"Slash is an incredible partner to myself and to the company."
In 2024, Alvaro Rivera co-founded Codes Health as the world's first AI-native medical record retrieval platform for plaintiff law firms. In less than two years, the company has grown from three employees to over 20 employees, with plans to continue hiring. They’ve also acquired more than 100 clients, and just as importantly, more than 100 vendors.
For Alvaro, that rocket-powered growth introduced challenges in the form of complex financials and customer demands. With clients who have unique invoicing preferences and vendors who want to use different payment rails, the simple act of money movement was eating away at Alvaro’s workflow. "If I don't have the right tools," Alvaro said, "the finance function of my company could take 50% of my time, and that would be very bad for everyone involved."
As a business banking platform built to help startups scale, Slash became the answer.¹ "Slash has become a critical partner to our company, and managing all those relationships at once."
Invoicing and Treasury In the Same Place
Once any B2B company begins adopting a wide variety of customers, they’ll quickly learn that invoicing isn't one-size-fits-all. In Alvaro’s experience, law firms have particular preferences regarding templates, reference formats, and payment methods. If Codes Health can’t accommodate each one of them, they risk payment delays and frustrated clients.
"Every single one of our customers have specific asks about how they want to see their invoice and how they wanna pay," Alvaro explained. "You need to be able to provide your customer with whatever template they want to see in their invoices, otherwise they will not pay."
Slash's invoicing tools gave Codes Health the flexibility to meet each client where they are. With customizable invoice templates and diverse payment options, Alvaro was able to match the expectations of over 100 different law firm clients without creating a manual workflow for each one.
For Alvaro, saving money is just as important as moving it. This meant that Codes Health had to choose a treasury provider that offered high annual yield and the flexibility to do more with their idle cash. "I looked at every treasury option on the market, and not only was Slash the best option, but it also provided options within the platform, which is something that I have not been offered before." Through institutional-grade funds powered by BlackRock and Morgan Stanley, Codes Health is now earning up to 3.80% yield.⁶
The presence of treasury tools on the same platform that handles invoicing and payments wasn't something Alvaro had found anywhere else. "It's extremely important to keep an eye on our runway and on our financial health every single month," he said, "and Slash providing the best treasury out there is gonna play a big role in that."
The Importance of Communication
When Codes Health began onboarding their accounting team, they realized that it wouldn’t be as easy as they expected. Each employee needed different levels of access and different permissions, which isn’t a problem that would solve itself as Codes continued to scale. So, Alvaro gave Slash a call, and the response was immediate. Slash handled the accountants, the internal employees, and Alvaro himself, working through the permissioning structure and getting everything configured within days.
"They're responsive via text, via Slack, via email, and via phone," Alvaro said. "The differentiator is access to the team."
That access is what sets the Slash experience apart from the rest of the fintech landscape. "What really strikes me about Slash is that the team provides a very white-glove experience, where they provide tailored workflows to your industry in a way that I haven't been able to find before in other fintechs."
As a New York-based founder, Alvaro has kept an eye on trends in his vertical and fintech as a whole. He noted, “in a world where products and companies have gone horizontal, it often came at a trade-off of specific product tailoring to verticals, and a company like Slash is here to truly revolutionize and question that assumption." With an impressive suite of tools and a team that’s ready to help with each of them, Slash is ready to enable Codes Health to take their next steps.
Big Plans Ahead
Codes Health wants to accelerate as quickly as possible. The company is targeting growth from 20 people to 500 within the next 24 months, with an ambition to become the default platform for medical record retrieval across American plaintiff law. With that kind of scaling, Alvaro and the team are about to see more vendors, more clients, and much more invoicing volume. It won’t be easy, but Slash will have their back throughout the journey.
"Many people in my shoes are thinking about how to bucket this work within a certain percentage of my bandwidth," Alvaro said, "and you need the right tools to do that, and Slash is playing a pivotal role in that."
Today, Codes Health trusts Slash to help run its banking, invoicing, treasury, payments, and more. “With Slash, it’s been a breath of fresh air to work with a team every single day, at any given moment, that makes the experience better for us.”
