Sending and Receiving International Payments with Slash
Last updated March 26, 2026
Overview
Slash offers several ways to send funds internationally from your business account. Whether you need to pay an overseas vendor, settle an invoice with an international partner, or transfer funds to a foreign bank account, you can choose the method that best fits your needs:
- International wire transfers (SWIFT): Send funds to bank accounts worldwide via the SWIFT network. Best for large or time-sensitive payments.
- International ACH transfers (Global ACH): Send credits that originate from the U.S. and settle on a foreign clearing house network. Generally lower cost than wires, with longer settlement times.
- Cryptocurrency transfers; Send stablecoins (USDC or USDT) to external wallets on supported blockchain networks. Covered in detail in a separate article.
To send an international payment, start by clicking the Move Money button in your Slash dashboard. Fees, exchange rates, and estimated delivery times are shown before you confirm any transfer.
Managing International Wire Transfers
International wire transfers use the SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) network to move funds from your Slash account to a bank account in another country. SWIFT is the most widely used network for cross-border bank transfers and is accepted by financial institutions in nearly every country worldwide. Slash currently supports sending international payments to 180+ countries via the SWIFT network.
How International Wires Work
When you send an international wire from Slash, your funds may be routed through one or more correspondent (intermediary) banks before reaching the recipient's bank. The number of intermediary banks involved depends on the destination country and the banking relationship between institutions. Each step in the chain may add time and, in some cases, fees.
What You'll Need
To send an international wire, you'll need the following information for the recipient:
- Recipient's full name (as it appears on their bank account)
- Recipient's bank name and address
- SWIFT/BIC code (8 or 11 characters); identifies the recipient's bank
- IBAN or account number (depending on the destination country)
- Recipient's address
- Purpose code (required for some countries such as the UAE, India, and Pakistan)
Currency and Exchange Rates
You can send international wires in USD or in the recipient's local currency. If you choose a foreign currency, Slash displays the current exchange rate and the converted amount at the time of confirmation. The rate is locked when you confirm the transfer. Alternatively, you can send in USD and let the recipient's bank handle the conversion on their end.
Processing Times and Fees
International wire transfers typically settle within 1–3 business days, depending on the destination country, correspondent banks involved, and any compliance reviews. Fees for international wires are displayed in the send-money flow before you confirm the transfer, so you can review the exact cost upfront.
Keep in mind that intermediary banks along the route may also deduct their own processing fees. For smaller transfer amounts, these fixed fees can represent a notable percentage of the total.
For a detailed step-by-step walkthrough of sending and receiving wires (both domestic and international), see the companion article: How to Send and Receive Wire Transfers With Slash.
SWIFT Information
SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) codes are standardized identifiers used to route international wire transfers to the correct bank. A SWIFT code (also called a BIC code) is either 8 or 11 characters long and identifies the bank, country, location, and optionally the specific branch.
Before initiating a payment in Slash to a new recipient located in a foreign country, you should confirm whether a SWIFT code is needed to execute the payment. Most international wire transfers require a SWIFT code, and using the wrong code can cause delays or failed transfers. You can usually find the recipient's SWIFT code by asking them directly or looking it up on their bank's website.
To receive an international wire into your Slash account, provide the sender with Slash's SWIFT code (CLNOUS66XXX), along with your Slash account number, business name, and address.
Managing International ACH Transfers
Slash enables users to send global ACH transfers, which are credits that originate from the U.S. and settle on a foreign clearing house network. International ACH transfers are typically less expensive than wire transfers and are a good option for recurring payments, payroll, or non-urgent transfers to supported countries.
Supported International Clearing Networks
Global ACH payments settle through the local clearing network of the destination country. Supported networks include:
- SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area): European Union and EEA countries
- BACS (Bankers' Automated Clearing Services): United Kingdom
- BECS (Bulk Electronic Clearing System): Australia
- EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer): Canada
- Zengin: Japan
- FPS (Faster Payments Service): United Kingdom (for faster settlements)
- And more
The specific network used depends on the recipient's country. Slash automatically routes your payment through the appropriate clearing network based on the destination.
IAT SEC Code Information
International ACH Transactions (IAT) use a specific Standard Entry Class (SEC) code that identifies the transfer as cross-border. Slash handles the technical details of IAT coding automatically, but understanding that your international transfers fall into this category can help you better track and manage your international payment activities. IAT transactions may appear with this designation in your transaction history.
International ACH Payment Considerations
When sending international ACH transfers, keep the following in mind:
- Processing times may be longer due to coordination between different clearing house networks. Expect 2–5 business days depending on the destination.
- Currency conversion may apply depending on the destination country. Exchange rate details are shown during the send-money flow.
- Additional documentation or information may be required for compliance purposes, depending on the destination and transfer amount.
- Fees are displayed upfront in the send-money flow before you confirm the transfer, so you can review the exact cost for your destination country.
- Check with Slash support for specific requirements related to your destination country, including any minimum or maximum transfer limits.
Choosing Between International Wires and Global ACH
Both methods get funds to your recipient abroad, but they differ in cost, speed, and availability:
- Speed: International wires (1–3 business days) are generally faster than global ACH (2–5 business days).
- Cost: Global ACH transfers typically have lower fees than international wires. Wires may also incur intermediary bank fees along the route.
- Availability: International wires are available to more countries. Global ACH is limited to countries with supported clearing networks (see list above).
- Best for: Use wires for large or urgent payments. Use global ACH for recurring, lower-value, or non-time-sensitive transfers to supported countries.
In the send-money flow, Slash shows the available transfer methods for your chosen destination along with the associated fees and estimated delivery times, making it easy to compare options.
Sending International Payments via Cryptocurrency
Slash also supports sending funds internationally using stablecoins (USDC and USDT) through supported blockchain networks. Crypto transfers can be a fast and cost-effective alternative for international payments, especially when the recipient has a crypto wallet and traditional banking rails are slow or expensive for their region.
To use this option, your business must have an approved Slash Crypto account. For full details on sending and receiving cryptocurrency transfers, supported blockchain networks, and wallet setup, see: How to Send and Receive Cryptocurrency Transfers with Slash.
