Closing a Virtual Account
Overview
Virtual accounts let you create dedicated bank account numbers for different purposes, like tracking funds from specific clients or projects. When you no longer need a virtual account, you can close it from your Slash dashboard.
Before closing a virtual account, there are a few things to understand about what happens to that account's funds, cards, and any incoming transfers.
Before You Close
Make sure the virtual account:
- Has a zero balance (transfer any remaining funds to another account)
- Has no pending transactions or holds
- Has all associated cards closed or reassigned
How to Close a Virtual Account
Step 1: Navigate to the Virtual Account
From your main dashboard, click on the virtual account you want to close. You can find your virtual accounts listed in the accounts section of your dashboard.
Step 2: Access Account Settings
Click the settings icon (gear) or the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the virtual account page.
Step 3: Select Close Account
Choose Close Account from the menu options. Review the confirmation prompt carefully.
Step 4: Confirm Closure
Click Confirm to permanently close the virtual account.
What Happens After You Close a Virtual Account
Once a virtual account is closed:
- Incoming transfers are returned: Any funds sent to the closed account's bank account number will be automatically returned to the sender.
- Cards are closed: All cards associated with the virtual account will be closed (not just deactivated). This means they cannot be reactivated.
- Account disappears from dashboard: Closed virtual accounts are removed from your account view. You won't see a "deleted accounts" section.
- Transaction history preserved: Your transaction history remains available in your statements and can be accessed by contacting support.
Can I Reopen a Closed Virtual Account?
No. Once a virtual account is closed, it cannot be reopened. The bank account number associated with that virtual account is permanently retired. If you need similar functionality, you'll need to create a new virtual account, which will have a new bank account number.
