BILL (also known as BILL.com) is a fintech platform that brings together accounts payable/accounts receivable, corporate cards, expense management, automated tools, and accounting integrations. For businesses primarily looking to speed up bill pay, collect receivables, and control employee spending, BILL has a solid set of tools that can save teams a lot of time on tedious work.
That said, BILL’s platform doesn’t have everything finance teams might want out of a banking platform. For example, BILL doesn’t have a dedicated treasury account that lets businesses earn money on idle cash. While it does offer a Cash Account that can earn 3% APY on idle cash, that falls short of the Slash Treasury account, which earns up to 3.82% annualized yield with money market investments from BlackRock and Morgan Stanley. Another key Slash account is the Global USD account, which gives eligible non-U.S. businesses access to USD and U.S. payment rails without requiring a U.S. entity. If you’re a foreign founder that wants to spend and accept USD locally, BILL will not be the answer.
While BILL supports many traditional payment rails, including the RTP Network and FedNow, it currently doesn’t allow users to transact in stablecoins. Tokens like USDC and USDT are pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar, meaning they can be used to send funds reliably, cheaply, and quickly. With built-in on/off ramps, Slash lets businesses convert and transfer stablecoins without stitching together a separate exchange, wallet, and reconciliation process.
The two platforms both come with corporate charge cards, but they work very differently. The Slash Visa® Platinum Card offers up to 2% cash back on eligible business spend, which is simple and easy to account for. The BILL Divvy card offers anywhere between 1.5x points and 7x points on purchases, depending on the category. However, these multipliers plummet if you only pay once a month as opposed to once a week, and you don’t get the rewards if you spend under 30% of your assigned credit line that month. It’s very convoluted, and while the ceiling for cash back is high, its floor is low.
Overall, BILL is a strong payables, receivables, and expense-management platform. Slash expands past those AP/AR and expense management features by adding stablecoin support, a Treasury account, global USD access in 130+ countries, and more.
