“The reason we switched is: we make more money.”

Developing a healthy lifestyle is tough, but knowing what to work on and how to develop it can be even tougher. Superpower is an all-in-one health platform that gives users access to frontier diagnostics that test for more than 1,000 conditions and sicknesses. With a simple blood draw, you can get a complete picture of your health data as revealed by 100+ biomarkers.

When Max Marchione co-founded Superpower in 2023, he knew monitoring his company’s financial health would be almost as important as the health of his customers. However, legacy banking options didn’t support the flexibility and automation he was looking for on a financial platform. As someone familiar with the realm of west coast tech-based startups, he knew modern fintechs may be the solution. That’s how he found Slash.

“We saw alignment with Slash’s team and community,” said Max, “[they’re] tech-forward, and caring about creating the best, most seamless experience possible."

Slash centralizes accounting tools, payment rails, deep analytics, AI automation, and more on one integrated dashboard that’s accessible from desktop or mobile.¹ In Max’s eyes, though, the most important piece of the Slash platform may be its corporate cards.

What’s Better Than Free Money?

The Slash Visa® Platinum Card is a charge card that syncs in real time with the Slash dashboard, automatically categorizes expenses, identifies suspicious activity, and earns users up to 2% cash back on every business transaction. For a high-spend startup like Superpower, this bonus capital adds up quickly.

“We liked the fact that we could make more from our spend,” Max remarked, “When we’re spending on a Slash card, we get more money back, and that allows us to hire more people to do more things. And now we get to do that all with great rewards on Slash Cards, and that overall is a massive net positive for the business.”

Slash offers both physical cards and unlimited virtual cards that can be issued to any employee, spend category, or department. Users may connect each card to its own sub-account, which are smaller spending buckets that can be specifically labeled and used to separate cash flows.

As Max put it, “We spend money on Facebook, on TikTok, on YouTube, and all of these different channels. And being able to have different team members having cards and budgets for those areas is great, because it makes it very fast to see what we’re spending on what. And we get great rewards for spending on these cards as well.”

Strong Controls and Easy Accounting

Beyond the cash back rewards, the Slash Visa® Platinum Card also comes with granular spending controls that allow configurable guardrails to be set per team member and per category. For example, Superpower may allow one physical card to be locked to one vendor for one employee, while enabling another virtual card to be used for all marketing initiatives with a set budget. It’s a level of flexibility that Superpower didn’t find with other financial institutions.

“It’s great to have controls on the cards for what they’re used for, as it streamlines accounting for us,” said Max. “It’s very neat to have spend segmented by card, for us to know what is auto-approved on the card, and the controls we’ve set up, and that makes life a little bit easier for accounting.”

Founders like Max can rest easy knowing that the Slash Card automatically flags any suspicious or limit-breaking transactions that occur. Before any unauthorized activity can get out of control, the Slash platform surfaces it and allows admins to approve the transaction or freeze the card on the spot.

“You don’t have to think about policing it at all, it feels like it’s done for us.”

One more level of control that Slash offers is the branding on the physical cards themselves, including customized colors, text, and logos. In our opinion, Superpower’s cards look pretty clean.

What’s next for Superpower?

With the help of extra capital earned from Slash Card spending, Superpower plans on spending the next year focusing on the stages after the health scan. Helping their customers along their care journeys, making it easier for them to get supplements and prescriptions, and replacing the primary care stack are the main priorities for Max and his team.

“Obviously, these are huge initiatives, and that means running a lot of campaigns, and a lot of budget into these campaigns,” he said, “and now we get to do that all with great rewards on Slash Cards.”
